John McLeod

The HNSOP has lost one of our great leaders and mentors. John McLeod was the longtime Referee-in-chief of Sackville Minor Hockey. John developed young officials into some of the best in the Branch and, in fact, some of the best in the country. He always led his group with integrity and passion and as many officials have said, "John started as our boss, but later became our friend." John's commitment to the game and to the officiating program will be deeply missed. He was always in the rinks, even if it was for a short "sneak attack" to keep everyone honest. Even in recent years, battling several health issues, John was always willing to help young officials develop their skills.

When you have a chance, ask for a good "John McLeod Story" from the likes of Mark Hulshof, Todd Thomander, Tim Connors, Jon Langille or Todd Robinson...there are plenty of good ones. We'll all miss John McLeod, but his contributions to the officiating program will not be forgotten.
